Baby over 40 / Mom over 40 (Kid over 40)
Insights and experienced shared by my personal experience as a tribute to having a baby over 40 for the first time.
Welcome! My journey has been a beautiful blessing having a baby over 40. It is an amazing ride as my kid is already 1/3 over his childhood as he soon turns 7. Being in this new passage of my life having a child over 40, I decided it was time with the current COVID-19 pandemic crisis here to contribute and express to the world the experience of what it’s like for me. Overall, being a mom is still as exciting as being pregnant at 40 (my case it was over 40). It is full of awe and joy. It teaches me about a new level of love that I never experienced before.
Being an older mom definitely has its advantages. But, it also has its disadvantages as well which I will get into later. Overall, I can finally attest to the old adage that life truly is short and the treasure of being with my son everyday has fulfilled me with so much love and light in my life. It’s a never ending growth process and I want to make sure I make a difference. But, it’s mainly about him and me with the new experiences of understanding the new midlife passages of my life. Is it easy? Not always, but as most already know, that is life—beautiful, complicated, and chaotic at the same time. Again, welcome to one of the biggest chapters in my life. It’s a unique position to be in raising a kid over 40. Thank you for your support as I commit to give and share my journey (especially giving hope to new moms over 40 that you are not alone).
It's not a secret. Energy is not the same 20 years ago especially with having a baby over 40. Values and priorities change. Having a child over 40 gives a deeper sense of appreciation and handling life's challenges with more grace and faith. It's challenging for all mom being pregnant. However, there are many health risks and complications for women over 40 compared to their younger counterparts (i.e. moms under 35). These issues intensify as a woman bearing a child over 40. I remember the special tests and waiting in anxiety for the results. Even after the pregnancy, it's a chosen lifestyle compared to what I have ever known before. It has taught me things within myself that only wisdom can bring about life. It has taught me about sacrifice, boundaries, limitations, unconditional love, courage, and treasures that are within not easy found by others on the surface (or understood for that matter). It's been a great ride so far even with the social aspects it entails. Come and check out what having a kid over 40 is all about.
Breaking the image of popular culture believing that having a baby over 40 is too old is nonsense. On the contrary, having a child over 40 has actually kept me younger in so many ways. Time is much more of a precious commodity compared to my younger years when I used to take advantage of it. Come join me as I share my journey. Yes, I am older and considered middle age with more wrinkles on my face and gray hair, but my life is still far from over as I embrace my life with a kid over 40. Yet, I am caught in an oxymoron dealing with my own midlife passage. These are interesting times as I embark on this journey in today's world.
